  Judge Daniel Wong made a statement.  Today marks a new chapter for Commissioners Court and I stand here with both excitement and a deep sense of responsibility.  I want to thank the members of the Commissioners Court, the County Clerk, and our County Attorney for their dedication of serving the people of Fort Bend County.  Each member of this court brings experience, perspective and a voice that represents our community.  I have no doubt that together we can do great things for Fort Bend.  As your County Judge, I will lead with honesty, I will work to ensure our actions are open, our processes are clear, and our accountability is unwavering.  Secondly, I will lead with integrity, that means doing what is right, even when it's not easy and even when it's not popular.  Third, I will work every day to build and maintain trust among this court, trust with our staff and, most importantly, trust with the residents of Fort Bend County.  I will work diligently, faithfully and always try to earn your trust.  Thank you so much.

4.   Public Comments regarding the Agenda and Announcements.
 
  Judge Wong announced there is one announcement and one proclamation.

Greg Babst, Emergency Manager shared details on the upcoming Emergency Preparedness Expo scheduled for May 9, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Mr. Babst announced this is the 3rd Annual Expo for National Hurricane Preparedness.

Bobby Eberle, Communications & Public Information Director presented a proclamation on behalf of Commissioners Court to the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Team for National Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 3 - 9, 2026.

Commissioner McCoy announced:
  • The Earth Day celebration was this past weekend.
  • Community Development is having their public meetings regarding the action plan on how we will expend monies for housing and other community projects.  The community is invited to come out and make their voice heard.  The next meeting will be this evening at the Cinco Ranch Library from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  A meeting will be at the Rosenberg Civic Center on April 27, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  On April 30, a meeting will be at the Mission Bend Library from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Our Bright Horizons partnership is now available.  This is to provide emergency child and dependent adult care for our County employees.
Nicole Ledet, Human Resources Director stated the Bright Horizons program launched on April 15.  Bright Horizons is a family solution resource to provide family support designed for when life actually happens.  Information can be found on the Human Resources web page.
 
 
Item 4 continued - Public Comments:
 
  Section IV of the Rules of Procedure, Conduct and Decorum At Meetings Of Fort Bend County Commissioners Court was read by the Court Services Manager.  The business of Fort Bend County is conducted by and between the members of the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court and by those members of the county staff, elected officials, department heads, consultants, experts and/or members of the public requested to be present and participate. While the general public is invited to attend all meetings of the Commissioners Court (except Executive Sessions) the public's participation therein is limited to that of observers unless a member (or members) of the public is requested to address the Commissioners Court on a particular issue (or issues) or unless the member (or members) of the public completes a Public Participation Form on an agenda item and submits the same to the County Clerk prior to the time the Court convenes the meeting.  A.  Each member of the public who appears before the Commissioners Court shall be limited to a maximum of three (3) minutes to make his/her remarks. Time for each speaker shall be maintained by the County Clerk or such other person designated by the Commissioners Court.  B.  Maximum discussion on any agenda, regardless of the number of members of the public wishing to address the Commissioners Court shall be limited to thirty (30) minutes. In the event that more than six (6) members of the public wish to address the court on a particular agenda item (or items), then no more than six (6) members of the public shall be recognized to speak and that number shall be divided equally between those members of the public wishing to speak for the agenda item (or items) and those members of the public wishing to speak against the agenda item (or items), with speakers selected in the order received by the court.  C.  In matters of exceptional interest to the Court, the Court may, by the majority vote of the members of the Court in attendance at the meeting, shorten or lengthen the time allocated for comments from the public and/or the amount of time allocated for all agenda items and/or a specific agenda item.

Dr. Pustinelk, Medical Examiner, explained why his staff needs to go to this particular conference.  In the Medical Examiner's office, the doctors must have their certifications and investigators must have continuing education credits.  The IACME conference is only held in Las Vegas and provides credits for doctors as well as investigators to maintain their certifications.
